This video was recorded whilst the group TAPS were investigating the Crescent Hotel. As they were doing a walk-around with the thermal imaging camera Jason asks for the tape to be rewound because he spots something odd. Upon a replay of the tape what appears to be a clear figure of a man wearing a hat and holding a pole is seen eyeing down Grant.
TAPS, in case you were not aware, are an American paranormal group that conduct wholly scientific investigative methods when researching a haunting. No mediums are used but rather cameras, recorders, dataloggers etc are all used in order to try and capture paranormal activity that can be studied and verified at a later date. The group, led by Jason and Grant, conduct numerous investigations which are broadcast on the TV program 'Ghost Hunters'. THeir methods are well thought out and, although the possibility is always there, I do not believe that any of the phenomena captured by the group is faked. They are also very analytical in their findings, spending time to thoroughly go over any potential phenomena to see if it could have been caused by anything rational.
It has been argued that the figure is a thermal reflection of Grant. It's argued that the hat that the figure is wearing is merely Grant's fringe. To me, the flat-topped shape of the head and the solidness of the brow make this theory improbable, but is typical of the type of hat that the Confederate Soldiers wore during the American Civil War (reference picture - http://www.fun-shop.com/images/08hats/21391c.jpg ).
These are my reasons as to why I believe that this video is something pretty special...
Because the apparition was spotted pretty much instantly Jason and Grant could instantly investigate the scene and check to see if anything rational could have created the figure to appear. In fact, Grant's reflection was the first possible explanation that came to them both at the same time, so they must have purposely tried to rationalise it as that. The first thing that the guys did was to stand in their original positions and re-create the exact scene and when they started filming not even the slightly hint of a thermal reflection could be seen in the shot. Even when the arm was being waved around in front of the camera near to the locker there was no hint of a thermal reflection appearing behind it.
If you watch closely during the split-screen between the night-vision and the thermal-vision camera you can see that at the exact same time that the figure appears in front of the locker Grant is not only swaying as he walks but also his head is continually looking downwards as he holds the thermal camera. Yet if you look at the figure it is standing very still and looking directly into the camera lens. Not only that, but the figure then stares down Grant, his head bowing down as it does so. The figure is also standing side on to Grant, its arms held out in front like it's holding onto a pole or staff. However, Grant is shown in the video to be standing face-on to the locker, and both of his arms are being used to hold the thermal camera. The movement and position of Grant in front of the locker bears absolutely no resemblance to the movement and position of the figure standing in front of him.
The other possibility that was considered was that the heat was being caused by someone hiding inside the locker as a joke, but upon checking it they discovered that it would have been impossible for someone to get in there due to the presence of shelves.
So what exactly could have caused the figure, and also the glowing 2? Personally I do not believe that the figure was a reflection of Grant, but there's definitely something there. But what? The only rational explanation that I can think of is that maybe a crewmember inadvertantly leant against the locker door for a period of time whilst waiting for the others to come - accidentally leaving a bodyheat imprint on the door. The only problems with this are that there is too much detail on the figure for this to be possible - that, and the hat would not be so clearly visible, if at all. The other problem is that the head of the figure is seen to eye down Grant, moving downwards like a bow in the process. Imprints cannot move.
So what're your opinions? Do you have any suggestions as to what could have caused the apparition?
